Date: Late February/early March annually; February 26-March 1, 2020
Location: Guess! San Diego, CA
Summary: Woah, west-coast birding. I haven’t had many opportunities to bird the extreme west of the US, so this was a ton of fun for me in 2019. The festival trips go far and wide to get a diversity of birders in one of the most diverse birding areas of the country.
My involvement: I attended the festival in 2019.
Fun fact: San Diego Country has 543 species recorded in eBird, the second-highest total in the United States!
Quick tip: Don’t visit the area without spending some time at La Jolla cove, a rugged scenic shoreline with cliffs, rocky outcroppings, and secluded coves, plus plenty of interesting birds to watch, such as shorebirds, gulls, Brown Pelicans, and an occasional Peregrine Falcon (read more in this article on All About Birds).
